Report from OneSoccer’s Gareth Wheeler: Scott Arfield will not be part of Canada setup in June

Speaking on OneSoccer Today on Thursday night, OneSoccer analyst Gareth Wheeler reported Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield won’t be called into the Canadian men’s national team side for the upcoming international window which will see John Herdman’s side face Aruba and Suriname.

“That name is completely out of consideration,” he said.

The 32-year-old last played for Canada in late 2019, a 4-1 defeat to the United States in Nations League action.

With important World Cup Qualifiers coming up in the June international window, and the Gold Cup later this summer, questions about Arfield’s future involvement with the national team will persist. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard surprised fans by saying that Arfield “doesn’t go on international duty anymore” in October, but Arfield was adamant that if selected by John Herdman he’d return to the Canada setup.

Canada will play Aruba and Suriname in June, on June 5th and June 8th, respectively. The Aruba game will take place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, while the Suriname game (a “home” game) will take place in  Bridgeview, Illinois at SeatGeek Stadium. Both matches can be watched on OneSoccer.

The OneSoccer Today team also debated what Herdman’s squad will look like, who could be some surprise call-ups, and much more.
