Schedule confirmed for first round of 2022 Canadian Championship

Canada Soccer confirmed on Wednesday the dates and times for the first round of matches in the 2022 Canadian Championship, which is set to begin on May 10.

Ten clubs will enter in this preliminary round, including seven Canadian Premier League sides, as well as MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, League1 Ontario team Guelph United, and the PLSQ’s CS Mont-Royal Outremont.

Winners of these five preliminary matches will move on to the quarter-finals (set for May 24-26), where the three sides with byes — Toronto FC, CF Montréal, and the CPL’s Pacific FC — will enter the competition as they all vie to lift the Voyageurs’ Cup and qualify for the Concacaf Champions League.

In the first round, CPL Alberta rivals Cavalry FC and FC Edmonton will face off, as will Ontario foes Atlético Ottawa and York United. Valour FC will take on the Whitecaps in BC Place, while HFX Wanderers FC will travel to Ontario to visit Guelph United.
