Cavalry FC staged a dramatic second-half comeback in their 2021 home opener Tuesday, grabbing a 2-1 win over FC Edmonton in the season’s first Al Classico.
ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows was electric as the Cavs marched onto their home turf for the first time in over 600 days. The Eddies silenced the home crowd early, though, starting with Easton Ongaro’s 19th-minute header. A series of other quality chances for FCE were left waning before halftime.

The second frame firmly solidified the tale of two halves as the Cavs started brightly. Several chances from Sergio Camargo saw Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s side was knocking on the door. It was Camargo that delivered the ball to Joe Mason on his opener – a first in a Cavalry shirt. Daan Klomp followed that up with his first as a member of the Calgary outfit, solidifying the result in the second half.
