Triston Henry signs new multi-year deal with Forge FC

Forge FC announced Thursday the signing of standout Canadian goalkeeper Triston Henry to a new multi-year deal. The 2020 CPL Golden Glove winner has played a vital role in all three of the club’s Canadian Premier League (CPL) championships (2019, ’20, ’22) and is also the all-time Canadian Premier League clean sheets leader with 33.

Henry, 29, has made 110 total appearances for Forge FC over four seasons (2019-22), including 86 in CPL play, 16 in Concacaf League, two in Concacaf Champions League, and six Canadian Championship matches, registering 59 wins and 41 clean sheets overall in all competitions. Prior to Forge, the 6-1 goalkeeper spent three seasons with Sigma FC (2016-18), earning two League1 Ontario All-Star selections and making a total of 51 appearances under coach Bobby Smyrniotis.

The Toronto native has been nominated for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award twice, winning it in 2020. In 2022, Henry started all but one of Forge’s 35 matches between the sticks, recording 12 clean sheets and winning 17 games. He backstopped Forge through another strong playoff run, keeping a shutout in the Final against Atlético Ottawa.

Henry has now played in every CPL Final match in league history, conceding just one goal across the five games. He’s been a key part of Forge’s play since the club’s inception — both stopping shots and springing attacking moves from the back with his distribution — and his presence as a leader in the dressing room has been vital to the team’s championship culture.

“Triston has been a rock for us at the back since day one,” said Forge FC Director of Football and Business, Costa Smyrniotis. “He is an outstanding goalkeeper with big game experience and performances in both domestic and international competitions. We are very happy to have him re-sign and look forward to continued success together.”
