WINNIPEG – Valour FC today announce the club has signed forward Marco Bustos to a multi-year contract. Bustos will join Valour FC from Oklahoma City Energy (OKC Energy) of the United Soccer League.
“I am delighted to bring a player of Marco’s calibre into Valour Football Club,” said Valour FC head coach Rob Gale. “Along with our two Dylans, I have very fond memories coaching Marco from a young age. He has blossomed into a dynamic attacking player whose goal-scoring creativity will excite the Valour Army.”
Bustos, 23, was a member of FC Northwest in Winnipeg for four years before joining the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy in 2011 where he remained until 2014. In his final year there, he was part of the Whitecaps U-23 PDL side, scoring seven goals in four appearances.
In 2015, the forward officially signed with the Whitecaps and made his MLS debut on October 14th. Bustos made 57 appearances for the club, and in 2018 was sent out on loan to Club Atletico Zacatepec (Ascenso Mexico). In August of that same year, Bustos joined OKC Energy.
“I am thankful and honoured to be joining Valour FC, it will be my privilege to represent my hometown in front of my family and friends,” said Bustos. “I know Rob very well and I am happy to continue my journey with him.”
On the national team side, Bustos made his debut for Canada at the 2012 CONCACAF Men’s U-17 Championship. He also represented his country at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013. In 2014, under the Head Coach Rob Gale, he was called into the U-20 squad, and was a part of the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship team.
