Valour FC announced on Saturday that it has decided not to renew the contract of midfielder Dylan Carreiro.

“At season’s end, we met with Dylan and we both agreed that it is best for his personal interests for us to not renew his contract and to grant him the ability to explore his options,” Valour coach Rob Gale said in a statement.

“We thank him for his contributions on the pitch and to the Winnipeg community.”

Carreiro, a 25-year-old native on Winnipeg, was selected by Valour in the first round (second overall) of the 2018 CPL U-SPORTS Draft.

He made his CPL debut and scored his first goal for the club on May 1, 2019 against Pacific FC, and  finished the season with two goals and two assists in 23 appearances.

In 2020, Carreiro was named Valour co-captain, and ended up playing 333 minutes and scoring one goal in seven appearances at The Island Games.

For the 2021 CPL campaign, Valour FC has already announced the return of defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste, forward Masta Kacher, and midfielder Brett Levis.
