Valour FC sign Canadian youth international Diego Gutierrez

WINNIPEG – Valour FC announced the signing of Canadian midfielder Diego Guitiérrez to a multi-year contract on Monday.

Guitiérrez, 22, joins Valour FC from Palestino (Chilean Primera Division) where he has played since 2015.

“Diego has spent his entire playing career at the top level in Chile making him a great acquisition for us,” Valour FC head coach Rob Gale said. “I was lucky enough to work with Diego and bring him into the Canadian national team system at the U-20 level, we are looking forward to the technical qualities he will bring to the team. He is a terrific pick up for the club.”

Gutiérrez grew up in Santiago and played his youth soccer with Colo-Colo (Chilean Primera Division) and Palestino. He made his professional debut for Palestino on May 6, 2017 and that same year, received his first call-up to Canada’s U-20 team coached by Gale.

Guitiérrez also was part of the Men’s U-20 international series in Panama, and the CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship that was played in Costa Rica in 2017.
