Each week of the Fall season, CanPL.ca will highlight the top five Volkswagen Premier Performers of the Week, while updating the overall standings as players from across the league compete to top the table and win a new Volkswagen Jetta GLI.
Here are the 5 VW Premier Performers of the Week:
1) Dylon Powley (FC Edmonton) – 85.97 pts
Not bad for a first league start! Powley backstopped his FC Edmonton side to a clean sheet Wednesday against HFX Wanderers. Two stops with decent distribution, Powley headlines a group of Eddies that stared in a light week of CPL action.
2) Easton Ongaro (FC Edmonton) – 84.93 pts
Scoring his second goal in as many games, Ongaro sits a shade over a full point behind his goalkeeping teammate following their match against HFX. A calmly placed header, and impressive pressing, from the big man gave FCE a confidence boost they rode to the midweek win.
3) Lukas MacNaughton (Pacific FC) – 81.07 pts
Lukas MacNaughton makes the list after scoring a go-ahead goal against Valour FC, also on Wednesday. His contested, well-timed back-post was a piece of attacking quality, naturally paired with strong defensive play from the centreback, puts MacNaughton in the top five.
4) Allan Zebie (FC Edmonton) – 80.93 pts
FC Edmonton’s fullbacks had a field day on Wednesday, starting on the left with Allan Zebie. A match-leading 65 touches and five takes with a couple of tricky crosses made his side of the pitch a danger zone for the opposition. On the other flank…
5) Jeannot Esua (FC Edmonton) – 79.73 pts
FC Edmonton’s standout right fullback was impressive gainst the Wanderers, floating a series of dangerous crosses — one of which found Ongaro for that opening goal.
