WATCH: Forge’s Welshman powers Guyana to 2019 Gold Cup berth

Forge FC forward Emery Welshman has sent Guyana to its first Gold Cup.

The 27-year-old scored the deciding marker in a 2-1 win over Belize in CONCACAF Nations League Qualifying on Saturday, propping Guyana up the standings with a first-time strike at the top of the box

With that goal, Guyana clinched a top 10 finish in the qualifying stage of CONCACAF’s new tournament setup, though there are still five more Nations League qualifying matches to be played before this round concludes, including Canada vs. French Guiana (3pm PT, 6pm ET, TSN/RDS) at BC Place.

Welshman’s goal came in his ninth appearance for Guyana since making his international debut in 2015. It was his seventh goal for the Golden Jaguars, three of which coming against Turks and Caicos in qualifying last fall.

Welshman joined Forge on loan from MLS side FC Cincinnati earlier this month.
