York United announce signing of goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario on loan

On Friday, York United announced that goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario will join the club on loan from Toronto FC II in MLS NEXT Pro through the end of the 2023 Canadian Premier League Season.

De Rosario, 18, joins older brother Osaze De Rosario, 22, on York’s 23-man primary roster. The move comes after York goalkeeper Elias Himaras suffered an injury to his meniscus in training earlier this month and underwent surgery to repair the damage earlier this week.

“Adisa is a talented young keeper who we feel can come in and contribute right away,” said Angus McNab, President/CEO & GM, York United FC. “While we expect Elias to return from injury in September, we obviously had a need to keep the goalkeeping group competitive. We feel Adisa has the necessary experience to keep pushing both Niko Giantsopoulos and Michael Williams, who will remain with our squad and train as part of our development roster.”

The California-born, Toronto-raised De Rosario’s loan to York comes on the heels of inking his first professional contract, an MLS NEXT Pro deal, with Toronto FC II in March 2023. He has started three matches for the club this year.

De Rosario made the jump to Toronto FC II from the club’s academy, which he joined in February 2015 and represented across various age groups over eight years, including a previous stint with TFC II on an academy contract in 2022.

That same year, De Rosario earned his first minutes in the Canadian Premier League. He signed a development contract with Halifax Wanderers FC in August 2022 that kept him with the east coast outfit through the end of the regular season, eventually logging 90 minutes overall for the club in his league debut against Forge FC on Oct. 9, 2022.

Internationally, De Rosario earned a call-up to Canada’s training camp ahead of the 2022 Concacaf Under-20 Championship last year.

The local product has also previously spent time with Vaughan Soccer Club and DeRo United Futbol Academy.

York also announced on Friday that the club has agreed to mutually terminate its contract with midfielder Oussama Alou. Alou made 18 appearances for the Nine Stripes in 2023, including two appearances in the Canadian Championship, scoring two goals and adding two assists.

De Rosario will be available for selection for York United’s next match at Atlético Ottawa on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. ET at TD Place Stadium.
