York United FC announce end-of-season roster updates

York United FC confirmed on Friday the contract status of its 2024 roster following the conclusion of this year’s Canadian Premier League season.

The club has signed five players for 2025: defenders Nyal Higgins and Max Ferrari, midfielders Elijah Adekugbe and Kembo Kibato, and forward Shola Jimoh.

The Nine Stripes hold options on five players and have until Dec. 31 to trigger them. Conversations continue with the following: goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini, defenders Juan Córdova and Oswaldo León, and forwards Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy and Dennis Salanovic.

Loans for defender Orlando Botello (CF Monterrey); midfielders Tomas Giraldo (Halifax Wanderers FC), Santiago Márquez (Club Necaxa) and Josué Martinez (CF Monterrey); and forward Jorge Guzmán (Atlas Fútbol Club) expired following the end of the league season.

Development contracts for defender Finn Raible, midfielders Lukas Pareja, Anthony Umanzor and Joshua Lopez have also expired, as has the CPL-U SPORTS contract for Trivine Esprit. The club has retained Esprit’s U SPORTS rights for the 2025 season.

Conversations continue with a number of players, whose contracts expire on Dec. 31, 2024: goalkeeper Eleias Himaras; defenders Noah Abatneh, Kadin Martin-Pereux and Frank Sturing; midfielders Clément Bayiha (whose loan to Halifax Wanderers FC ended following the league season) and Matthew Baldisimo; and forwards Theo Afework, Mo Babouli and Brian Wright.

In Thursday’s CPL-U SPORTS Draft, York United FC selected Luca Accettola and Matthew Fischer — both of York University.
