York United pro Ahmed Jamal captures eCPL Own The North PS4 title

York United’s Ahmed Jamal captured the eCPL PS4 Own The North title Wednesday, representing the York club in the EA Sports FIFA 21 finals event sponsored by New Era and broadcasted by hosts Faizal Khamisa and ChuBoi.

Jamal, also known as YouGotToChill, won the championship after defeating gamers representing the other seven CPL clubs and, in doing so, has earned $2,000 CAD and the right to represent Canada at the North America Playoffs on the road to the FIFA eWorld Cup.

Wednesday’s final pitted Jamal against Pacific FC’s Arash Davari. The two-legged tie proved anti-climatic with Jamal jumping out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. Davari was forced to play aggressively and take more chances… which ended up a costly path to take. A second-half red card on a clear goal-scoring opportunity from Jamal led to a free-kick which, you guessed it, the York United representative converted with his Eric Cantona card to end the game 4-0.

The second leg sealed the deal for York’s e-athlete, who ended up winning the tie with a definitive 7-0 scoreline.

Jamal earned his spot in the final after taking down Faysal Younes of Forge FC and Alix Largerie of HFX Wanderers FC – the latter of which was a nail-biting upset victory over the North American no. six-ranked gamer. Davari, meanwhile, earned a spot through the opposite side of the bracket after beating Cavalry FC’s Jimi Ogunsanya and Valour FC representative Matteo Bozzetto.

Forge FC representative GoalMachine won the Xbox tournament last week after defeating real-life Cavalry FC forward Jose Hernandez.
