York United FC confirmed on Wednesday the signing of midfielder Trivine Esprit to a U SPORTS contract.
The club now has until August 1 to extend the deal for the 21-year-old.
Esprit was selected second in Round 2 of the 2023 CPL-U SPORTS Draft and has been training with the squad consistently since pre-season. He has already made a senior debut for The Nine Stripes too, coming on for the final few minutes of the side’s big 2-1 home win over Atletico Ottawa on June 9, having signed a development permit contract ahead of that clash.
This term, Esprit has also picked up plenty of game-time with League1 Ontario side Darby FC , managing seven starts for the team since the end of May.
The Scarborough, ON native was a key part of the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and has accumulated additional L1O experience with Unionville Milliken SC and Simcoe County Rovers FC.
“Trivine has worked really hard and he’s improved a lot over his time with us,” says Angus McNab, York United FC’s CEO/President and GM.
“With Lassana (Faye) being transferred, this gives us the opportunity to bring him into the squad on a U SPORTS deal. It’s on Trivine now to contribute further and push us to extend this beyond August. I’d also like to praise the staff at Ontario Tech and at Darby FC for their partnership in helping us and working with Trivine.”
