York United striker Austin Ricci undergoes ACL surgery
York United FC announced on Tuesday morning that striker Austin Ricci suffered an ACL injury during the club’s Canadian Championship match against Atlético Ottawa, and has thus undergone surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 season.
Ricci officially signed for the club in late April and made four appearances for them off the bench before his injury. The 26-year-old joined York after a successful 2021 season at Valour FC, in which he scored eight goals and added two assists in 18 appearances.
The club added that Ricci underwent surgery on June 1 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, and will now turn his focus to recovery and preparing for the 2023 season.
