York United’s Shola Jimoh called up by Canada for 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers

The Canadian men’s national U-17 team announced their squad in the 2025 Concacaf U-17 qualifiers on Wednesday.

Canada have been drawn into Group A alongside Bermuda, Curaçao, Anguilla, and Turks and Caicos. Bermuda hosts Group A action, with each team playing each other once. Win that group, and Canada will qualify for the newly expanded 48-team 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

The 21-player squad includes 16-year-old York United attacker Shola Jimoh, who scored four goals in 16 matches in all competitions in his first professional campaign. Jimoh was also called up to a Canadian senior national team camp in November.

Jimoh recently scored for Canada in a 2-1 victory over Mexico in a U-17 friendly back in November. Canada also defeated Costa Rica 3-0 during that camp, which was held down in San José — results which will fill the group with plenty of confidence heading into qualifying.

Canada are looking to qualify for their ninth U-17 World Cup, having been to the last two editions. Canada are still searching for their first win at a FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The competition kicks off for Canada on Feb. 9 when they face Turks and Caicos before taking on Anguilla on Feb.11, Curaçao on Feb. 13 and Bermuda on Feb. 16. The team will be coached by Mike Vitulano.
