WATCH: Escalante’s free kick winner sends Spruce Meadows into frenzy

An expertly crafted free kick from Honduran winger-turned-froward Jose Escalante was all that separated Cavalry FC and Valour FC on Wednesday, with the home side taking a 1-0 win after 90.

The 23-year-old earned man of the match honours after nearly converting on several chances, including in the 47th minute, when he hit a shot at the back post against the side-netting in agonizing fashion.

But Escalante would not miss his second effort, hitting a left-footed free-kick through the Valour wall and past Tyson Farago to give his team a second win out of two to start the 2019 CPL campaign.

The goal was the difference in what Cavs head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. called a “chess match” with Rob Gale and his Valour side.
