WATCH: Ledgerwood hails Cavalry’s collective character, lack of egos

Cavalry FC captain Nik Ledgerwood has been more than impressed with the strength of character his teammates have already displayed, heralding his newly put-together squad for their collective mentality of carrying on as they traverse the road of a new professional soccer league.

“This is probably the first team that I’ve been involved with that there’s no egos, there’s nobody that thinks they’re bigger than the league (or) they’re bigger than the team,” Ledgerwood said, in the video above. “Everybody’s in it for the same reason. Everybody knows that it’s a new league; there’s going to be bumps, there’s going to be growing pains, but everybody has been extremely positive.”

Ledgerwood, 34, has seen plenty of tribulations during his own playing career, having suited up for various outfits in Germany for the better part of 11 years.

And under head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr., any upcoming hardships – the sort that come with any competitive season – will be ironed out with steely resolve.

“Tommy has kind of created this culture within the team that we’re going to get on with it,” Ledgerwood affirmed. “We’re going to make the best out of any situation.”

Cavalry FC kicks off its inaugural campaign by hosting York9 FC at Spruce Meadows on May 4, 2019.
