Cavalry FC added some depth to its defence on Monday with the announcement that it has signed former Republic of Ireland youth international Tom Field for the 2021 CPL season.
Field, a 23-year-old English left fullback, is a product of Brentford FC’s youth academy, having debuted for the senior team during the 2016-17 season.
He went on to make 17 appearances for Brentford in the English Championship (second division) before he was sent out on loan in 2017 to Bradford City in League One (third division). A second loan spell followed in 2018 at Cheltenham Town in League Two (fourth division). He also played in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup during his time playing in England.
Most recently, he played for Dundee FC in the Scottish Championship (Scotland’s second tier).
The England-born defender is a left fullback by trade, but he can also slot in on the left side of midfield.
“Tom is a great acquisition for us as even though he’s still young, he has some exceptional professional experience at a very good level in England. …. He will bring quality both sides of the ball and has a terrific left foot to give us balance down our left,” Cavs coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said in a media release.
Field has a bit of international experienced under his belt, having earned a pair of caps for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-16 team.
Field is the 13th Cavalry player confirmed for 2021, joining newcomers Joseph Di Chiara and Ahinga Selemani, returnees such as José Escalante, Elijah Adekugbe, Mason Trafford and Nik Ledgerwood
