FC Edmonton’s Easton Ongaro named CanPL.ca Player of the Week

FC Edmonton striker Easton Ongaro was named CanPL.ca’s Player of the Week on Friday, for the round of matches beginning Saturday, October 2.

The towering Eddies forward scored two goals this past week, as his side picked up a pair of excellent results. He scored a key equalizer in the second half last Saturday against Valour FC after entering the game in the 60th minute, playing a huge role in Edmonton’s turnaround for a draw on the road. Then, on Wednesday night, Ongaro scored again — his 10th of the season (good for second in the CPL) — as the Eddies claimed perhaps their most impressive result of the season so far with a 2-1 win over league-leading Pacific FC.

Ongaro, alongside fellow striker Tobias Warschewski, has been the key focal point in Edmonton’s attack all season long, proving himself one of the top finishers in front of goal in the entire CPL. In three years with FCE now, Ongaro has scored 23 goals in the CPL for the club.

The striker is the first FC Edmonton player to receive a Player of the Week nod in 2021, as Ongaro takes the title from last week’s winner, Kyle Bekker of Forge FC.
