CanWNT to play Australia in pre-Olympic friendly on July 13

Canada Soccer announced today that the Canadian women’s national team will be taking on Australia in a pre-Paris Olympic friendly on Saturday, July 13 in Marbella, Spain.

The match will kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET / 12:00 p.m. PT. Their #CanWNT Preparation Camp, presented by CIBC, will also feature a behind-closed-doors match on Wednesday, July 17.

European-based players are set to report to camp July 4, while North American players fly in on July 8. Canada will remain in camp in Marbella until their opening match of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Canada played against Australia three times in 2023, including a 4-0 humbling in their final match of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. They fared far better in a pair of send-off friendlies for Christine Sinclair in December, however, winning 5-0 at Starlight Stadium, before a 1-0 victory at BC Place. Canada are currently ranked eighth, while Australia sit 12th in the World.

Canadian Women’s national team coach Bev Priestman announced her 18-player squad for the Olympics, plus the four alternates, on Monday.

Canada’s gold medal defence at the 2024 Paris Olympics begins on Thursday, July 25 when they face New Zealand, before taking on host France on Sunday, July 28, finishing the group with a clash with Colombia on Wednesday, July 31.
