On Monday, Concacaf announced a new ranking system for the region’s clubs and leagues.
The new rankings will determine seeding for both Concacaf Champions League, as well as regional club competitions.
Clubs are ranked on their results since 2017 in the following competitions: Concacaf Champions League, Concacaf Regional Cups (Leagues Cup, Central American Cup, and Caribbean Cup), domestic first division professional league, Member Associations Cups (i.e Canadian Championship) and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Forge FC are currently the highest-ranked CPL club, sitting in 52nd after their appearance in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League. Pacific FC, the only other CPL club to play continentally and win a CPL title, are currently ranked 61st.
The second-highest ranked CPL side, however, is Cavalry FC who sit 56th. The remainder of the CPL clubs are in the following order: Atlético Ottawa (72nd), York United (75th), Valour FC (80th), Halifax Wanderers (82nd), while expansion side Vancouver FC are ranked 102nd. In total 184 clubs were ranked by Concacaf.
The highest-ranking Canadian club is CF Montréal, who currently sits 14th. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC are currently ranked 40th and 41st respectively.
As a league, the CPL ranks sixth in the region out of the 14 member leagues, with the top three currently, in order, Liga MX, Major League Soccer and Liga Nacional de Honduras. The league rankings are based on member club performances in international competitions only, with a particular emphasis placed on the Concacaf Champions League.
