Ahead of a big week for the Canadian Men’s National Team, as they prepare for the 2023 Concacaf Nations League Finals in Las Vegas, the team announced that Phil Neville and Richard Shaw will be joining the coaching staff.
Neville, a former English international, recently managed Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. He also spent time as England Women’s National Team manager between 2018 – 2021, during which time he worked alongside current CanWNT manager Bev Priestman.
Shaw, meanwhile, spent time as the caretaker manager with Millwall, before more recently holding roles as a U-23 coach for both Crystal Palace and then more recently Watford. Both Shaw and Neville had tremendous player careers as well — with the latter representing England 59 times.
“Both Phil and Richard bring with them winning experiences at the highest levels and have worked with some of the Premier League’s top managers during their careers,” said national team head coach John Herdman in a press release. “They’ll work as positional and unit coaches with the aim of helping us to win our first trophy in over two decades.”
Canada opens the Concacaf Nations League Finals against Panama on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m. ET. They will then face either the United States or Mexico in the final or third-place game on Sunday, June 18, depending upon the results. Both matches will be available live on OneSoccer.
