Cavalry FC sign Australian youth international Lleyton Brooks

Cavalry FC announced on Tuesday the signing of Australian forward Lleyton Brooks on a two-year contract with a one-year option ahead of the 2024 season.

The 22-year-old joins as a free agent following a career in Australia’s A-League, where he made 32 appearances for Melbourne Victory. Throughout his youth career, Brooks played for both Brisbane Strikers before joining Brisbane Roar’s youth side, where the club claimed the 2018/2019 Y-League championship. The forward then joined Melbourne Victory in 2019, where he made his professional debut for the side in 2020. His debut season was impressive, having scored two goals in nine appearances, which led to him receiving Melbourne Victory’s Young Player of the Season award.

“We really like what we’ve seen in Lleyton and feel he is a player who will come in and make our team better,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. in a press release. “He is a dynamic player with a big upside, that loves to drive at the opposition defence and has good quality in his shooting and delivery. He is at a great age where he can only get better and I’m certain he will add another dimension to our attack.”

Internationally, Brooks has made three appearances and scored two goals for the Australia U20 National Team.

“I’m ecstatic to be joining this club which had such immense success last season, and with such passionate supporters,” said Brooks. “I know that I will bring a lot to the team, and I’m hungry to bring more trophies back to Calgary.”
