Gatorade Team of the Week (Week 22)

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the 22nd week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and OneSoccer’s Oliver Platt.

Goalkeeper

Jassem Koleilat (Forge FC)

A Forge keeper in back-to-back Teams of the Week, but this time it’s Koleilat rather than Chris Kalongo. He was excellent in a 2-1 win over Cavalry FC, making four saves.

Defenders

Kunle Dada-Luke (Pacific FC)

On a breakthrough night for the Tridents, Dada-Luke was crucial on both sides of the ball. He won a team-high 10 duels and went a perfect six-for-six in attempted tackles.

Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson (Forge FC)

The Swedish defender stood out in his side’s backline on Saturday, helping limit Cavalry at Tim Hortons Field. Achinioti-Jönsson had a 92.1 per cent passing accuracy and otherwise helped control the tempo and build-up play for his side.

Nyal Higgins (York United FC)

Higgins scored his first CPL goal on Friday to lift York to a 1-0 win in Vancouver. He also made two tackles and five clearances, winning eight out of 12 duels to maintain an important clean sheet for his team’s title hopes.

Ilias Iliadis (Atlético Ottawa)

Since returning on loan to Atlético Ottawa last month, Iliadis has made four starts, and been named in the Team of the Week three times. He played a slightly different role against Valour on Monday night, moving out to the left of a back five with Matteo de Brienne suspended. Iliadis won three tackles and six duels, also getting more involved in the attack as a wingback.

Midfielders

Dario Zanatta (Pacific FC)

Zanatta finally scored his first goal for the Tridents on Saturday night and it looked like a weight off his shoulders. He had five shots in total and created three chances as part of Pacific’s rout of the Halifax Wanderers.

Raphael Ohin (Valour FC)

The Rhino put in another excellent shift in midfield during Valour’s draw with Atlético Ottawa. Ohin led his team’s starters with a 97.1 per cent pass accuracy, also winning possession six times.

Elijah Adekugbe (York United FC)

Adekugbe was a critical midfield cog in York’s win over Vancouver FC. He won the ball five times and completed two tackles, helping command the middle of the park in a tricky away game.

Tristan Borges (Forge FC)

Forge’s new all-time leading goalscorer finds himself in the Team of the Week for a seventh time in 2024 after scoring twice against Cavalry on Saturday. Playing in a left-wing role after a season spent mostly at number 10, Borges was excellent coming in from the flank. His second goal was an extremely well-taken penalty.

Forwards

Shaan Hundal (Valour FC)

Hundal scored the only open play goal of the 1-1 draw between Valour and Ottawa, and it was a lovely finish to an excellent piece of build-up play. He made an intelligent run in front of a defender and did well to redirect the ball into the corner of the goal. Hundal also created two chances and was consistently a threat in transition.

Moses Dyer (Pacific FC)

This is Dyer’s fourth appearance in the Team of the Week this year, but his first as a Pacific player. He got on the board in the 81st minute against Halifax, but was a handful for the Wanderers all night. He won four out of five aerial duels and had four shots, also winning five fouls.
