Forge FC and Cavalry FC have some extra incentive to win the 2019 Canadian Premier League Finals.

Canada Soccer announced Friday that the 2019 Canadian Premier League Champion will also gain an automatic berth into the 2020 Concacaf League, which kicks off next summer.

The winner of the 2020 Concacaf League advances to the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Forge FC competed in the 2019 Concacaf League, defeating Guatemalan cub Antigua GFC in the tournament’s first round, before falling to Olimpia of Honduras in the round of 16.

Forge gained entry into this year’s Concacaf League after bating out FC Edmonton and Valour FC in abbreviated, head-to-head qualifying campaign.

“Canada Soccer would like to congratulate the Canadian Premier League on a successful debut season and wish Cavalry FC and Forge FC the best of luck in the finals,” Canada Soccer President Steven Reed said in a news release.

“(We) are proud of our role in developing, governing and growing the game through our support of the expanded professional playing opportunities created through the launch of the Canadian Premier League and the securing of a second Canadian entry in confederation competitions that ultimately lead to the FIFA Club World Cup.”

Cavalry and Forge face off in Leg 1 of the Canadian Premier League finals on Saturday at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field (3:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. MT, on OneSoccer, CBC & CBCSports.ca). Leg 2 of Finals 2019 is scheduled for Nov. 2 at ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows in Calgary.
