FC Edmonton midfielder Chance Carter announced his retirement on Wednesday, hanging up his boots after just one professional season. The 19-year-old Edmonton native has made the decision in order to follow other career opportunities outside the sport.
After spending time in the club’s academy, as well as with the Vancouver Whitecaps youth setup, Carter signed for his hometown club ahead of the 2020 CPL season. He played in six of the club’s seven games in 2020, including one start — playing 201 minutes at the Island Games in total.
He was the first player announced for the 2021 season by FC Edmonton last November, as they picked up the club option on his contract, but he will not be joining The Eddies this year after all.
“Chance made the decision to retire from playing professional soccer to pursue other career interests,” said Eric Newendorp, the club’s General Manager in a statement on Twitter. “We reached a mutual agreement to part ways. We thank Chance for his time with the Club, and we wish him happiness and success in the future.”
