Canada announce squad for 2022 Concacaf W Championship

The Canadian Women’s National Team announced their squad for the Concacaf W Championship being played in Mexico in July.

The squad includes a large contingent of the players who won Gold at the 2020 Toyko Olympics. The W Championship serves as the qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as well as the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“Selecting the 23 players was incredibly difficult and I think the quality of the players who did miss out speaks to the overall quality of the group,” said Head Coach Bev Priestman in a press release. “Four of the five additions to the squad from last summer have all had experience at Concacaf or FIFA tournaments which is great. Now it’s about shifting gears from selection to connecting as a team and continuing to work on the little things that best prepare us to kick off in Monterrey.”

Canada will open the W Championship on July 5, with a group that includes Costa Rica, Panama and Trinidad and Tobago.

Preparations, meanwhile, continue with a home match at BMO Field on Sunday, June 26, at 3:00 p.m. against South Korea. Tickets are still available for that match.
