Canadian Premier League announces EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series
eCPL OWN THE NORTH competition
Toronto, ON – March 10, 2021 – Today, the Canadian Premier League and Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announce the new online format and competitive schedule for the eCanadian Premier League (eCPL) 2021 season. eCPL 2021 OWN THE NORTH will offer Canadian competitors the chance to compete for and represent their favourite Canadian Premier League Club in EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 Global Series competition and will be played on both PlayStation® and Xbox.
As an official League partner of the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series, the eCPL enjoys reserved seats for the 2021 eCPL Xbox and PlayStation champions at the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series North American Regional Playoffs for the FIFAe World Cup 2021.
With the health and safety of all participants at the forefront, the entirety of the 2021 competitive eCPL season will be online. Online Trials will give all eligible players across Canada the chance to qualify for the eCPL PlayStation® and Xbox Finals. From the Trials, 16 of the nation’s best players (eight from Xbox and eight from PlayStation®) will put on their CPL club jerseys and compete for a chance to become the eCPL Xbox Champion and eCPL PlayStation® Champion for 2021. The eCPL Champions will represent their teams on their quest to be crowned the best EA SPORTS FIFA 21 player in North America and potentially the world.
All eight Canadian Premier League clubs are represented in the tournament, giving players the chance to live their dream of winning a title for their favourite club. Registration for Canadian Premier League’s esports league, eCPL, for the EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 Global Series, opens on March 10th with competition to begin on March 23rd. The Xbox and PlayStation® Finals will be broadcast live on twitch.tv/ecpl.
“We are looking forward to partnering with EA in this online format for the eCPL 2021 season and are excited to participate in our first full tournament,” said David Clanachan, Commissioner, Canadian Premier League. “As the first Canadian league to be added to the EA SPORTS FIFA 21 Global Series we can’t wait to showcase our Canadian Esports talents and challenge other teams on the global stage. While the global pandemic may have interrupted our first year of competitive gaming, we are excited to offer Canadian Esports talent a platform on which to shine in 2021. We can’t wait to see our two eCPL Champions represented at the North American Regional Playoffs and potentially the FIFAe World Cup.”
The eCPL will be operated by Esports tournament organisers Northern Arena. Visit www.ecpl.gg for more information and visit the Official Rules.
