Cavalry FC Sign 17-year-old Defender Michael Harms to Professional Contract

Cavalry FC announced on Wednesday the signing of 17-year-old defender, Michael Harms, to a professional contract through until the end of 2024, with a two-year option.

Born in Calgary, Harms joined Cavalry FC during the 2022 season on a developmental contract from Calgary Foothills FC, where he played much of his career under Foothills FC Head Coach and former Cavalry defender, Jay Wheeldon. Following joining Cavalry FC, Harms appeared for the club’s U21 side throughout the 2023 League1 Alberta Exhibition Series, where he scored one goal in the league’s inaugural season. He then went on to make his professional debut for Cavalry FC in the same season, where he appeared in the 78’ minute against Atletico Ottawa, before later appearing in the 31’ away to Vancouver FC.

“Michael is a young player with high potential and a strong mentality,” said Tommy Wheeldon Jr., Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC. “We’ve been impressed with his development as he has adapted very well within the professional environment.  He is a dynamic defender that provides a lot of energy and speed to the team along with being technically proficient.”

Cavalry FC continues to provide opportunities for young Canadians to develop their talent within a professional environment which can see them progress within their playing careers. With the likes of Victor Loturi, Joel Waterman, Mo Farsi, Dominick Zator, Aribim Pepple, and most recently, Goteh Ntignee, the club now look to grow the ability of Michael Harms as he implements himself within the Canadian Premier League.

“I’m very excited to be signing a professional contract with Cavalry FC,” said Michael Harms. “This has been a dream of mine and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”

Cavalry FC will next travel to face Forge FC on September 9 and will return home on September 16 as they host Vancouver FC on ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows.
