Gatorade Team of the Week (Week 25)

The Gatorade Team of the Week for the 25th week of Canadian Premier League action in 2024, brought to you by Kristian Jack and OneSoccer’s Oliver Platt.


Goalkeeper

Callum Irving (Vancouver FC)

The VFC captain made four good saves in an impressive clean sheet at ATCO Field against Cavalry FC.

Defenders

James Cameron (Vancouver FC)

Cameron had one of the toughest assignments in the CPL this weekend defending against Ali Musse, but he was outstanding at left-back, amid what’s turning into an impressive second half of the season for the youngster.

Alexander Achinioti-Jönsson (Forge FC)

The Swedish defender did well marking York United’s attackers out of the game on Saturday, and he helped launch the counter-attack leading to Forge’s second goal.

Tass Mourdoukoutas (Valour FC)

Mourdoukoutas made four successful tackles (from four attempts) against Pacific as well as seven clearances, also winning seven duels in a massive victory for Valour.

Amer Didic (Atlético Ottawa)

Didic scored in the fourth minute at home against Halifax, getting on the end of a Manny Aparicio delivery. He also made seven clearances, doing well to take care of the aerial battles.

Themi Antonoglou (Valour FC)

Antonoglou won’t be credited with an assist, but it was his cross that turned into the own goal that won it for Valour against Pacific. He also made seven interceptions, performing well at left-back in a tough battle against Kunle Dada-Luke.


Midfielders 

Kyle Bekker (Forge FC)

The 34-year-old was at his very best against York United, earning an assist on the winning goal but otherwise commanding the centre of the park.

Lorenzo Callegari (Halifax Wanderers FC)

The Wanderers’ midfield maestro earns a second straight TOTW nod, after providing the assist for a late equalizer in Ottawa. He created five chances and won possession nine times, anchoring the middle for Halifax on the road.

Noah Jensen (Forge FC)

Jensen scored again for Forge in a huge win for them at home. Playing alongside Bekker, he helped control the game and got into some very dangerous attacking areas.

Forwards

Béni Badibanga (Forge FC)

Badibanga returns to the TOTW for a second straight week. He created five chances, won seven duels and had four successful dribbles in a dynamic performance on the wing.

Ryan Telfer (Halifax Wanderers FC)

Telfer played very well in a hold-up striker role for the Wanderers, creating four chances for teammates and popping up all over the attacking third.
