Could Canadian midfielder David Choiniere be on his way to Forge FC?
According to his agent Nikos Mavromaras, the 22-year-old has been weighing his future options and has opted to join Bobby Smyrniotis’ side instead of signing a new one-year contract with the Montreal Impact, which would reportedly include a potential loan, reports 98.5 FM Montreal’s Jeremy Filosa.
“We think it’s better for David to go to Hamilton,” Mavromaras was quoted as saying, as translated by CanPL.ca staff. “In my opinion, he will be better surrounded there …”
“It’s a sporting choice. The fact that a CPL club will go directly to the (the CONCACAF League) also weighed in on our decision. If David scores a goal in this competition, we will have calls for 2020, that’s for sure.”
Mavromaras also reportedly affirmed that the Impact will continue to monitor the player and that the relationship between the player and the club remains positive.
Choiniere, the older brother of another Impact player Mathieu Choiniere, was released by the Quebec-based club at the end of the 2018 season, having been limited to a handful of minutes due to an ankle injury requiring surgery.
He has appeared for the Canadian men’s Under-20 national team.
