Cavalry FC finally found their shooting boots Saturday, dispatching HFX Wanderers FC 2-1 in their second-to-last match at The Kickoff in Winnipeg, Man.
Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s group, set to return to Calgary this week, found goals in Anthony Novak just before halftime and Ali Musse just after it as the pair thrived in an aggressive three-forward system alongside Ahinga Selemani.
The Wanderers generated a fair amount of chances and eventually converted with Sam Salter at a sharp angle. Despite the efforts, Halifax eventually went down to a record of 1-2-3. Cavalry, meanwhile, jumped to a record of 3-2-2.
Saturday’s match also saw the highly-anticipated debut of Cavalry striker Joe Mason, who joined Calgary from English side MK Dons.
