The Canadian Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer is also the youngest player to be sold to another team.
Valour FC announced on Thursday that Canadian teenager Tyler Attardo has been transferred to Chilean second-division club C.D. Arturo Fernández Vial for an undisclosed fee. He is also the first CPL player to be sold to a South American team.
Attardo initially drew interest from Valour after excelling in the Winnipeg open trials as a 16-year-old in the buildup to the 2019 season.
A native of Winnipeg, Attardo, now 18, previously spent time in the residency program of Italian outfit Chievo Verona.
“I want to offer my congratulations in what is obviously an exciting time for Tyler, myself, the staff and everyone associated with the club who wish him much success as he takes the next step in his football career moving to South America,” Valour FC coach and GM Rob Gale said.

Attardo signed with Valour last January and played 1,049 minutes while scoring six goals in all competitions, becoming the club’s second-leading goalscorer.
He became the youngest goalscorer in Canadian Premier League history (at 17 years, nine months and 11 days) when he found the back of the net on June 20, 2019 in a 2-1 home loss to Pacific FC.
Attardo’s 2019 season was nothing short of exemplary, especially considering the journey he took to get to the pros.
“I wasn’t too sure where I really wanted to go or what I really wanted to do,” Attardo told CanPL.ca last September. “But then, when I heard about the open trials, there was nothing else on my mind. Being able to play in Winnipeg, in front of my home fans, and to be given this opportunity, has been amazing.”
