On Thursday, York United announced that they have triggered the options on six players ahead of the 2024 campaign.
Defenders Noah Abatneh and Kadin Martin-Pereux, midfielders Matthew Baldisimo, Brem Soumaoro and Markiyan Voytsekhovskyy and attacker Austin Ricci will return to the club for this upcoming season.
Abatneh and Voytsekhovskyy are both eligible for domestic U-21 minutes again this season, with the former leading York in this category in 2023 with 637 minutes played.
Despite playing just 228 minutes, Martin-Pereux made a solid impression after joining the club in September, picking up two assists. Soumaoro and Baldisimo provided key solidity in midfield with the Liberian international finishing second on the team in minutes played with 2,010.
Veteran Austin Ricci, meanwhile, was a key leader for the club after returning from an injury that kept him out most of last season. He had three goals and two assists in 2023.
In other roster news, earlier this week York United captain Roger Thompson announced his retirement. The 32-year-old made 60 appearances for the Nine Stripes as a central defender.
