An overhead kick from Terran Campbell, and a pair of impressive strikes from Pacific midfielders, saw Pacific FC beat Cavalry FC 3-1 at Starlight Stadium in a top-of-the-table clash on Thursday night.
Tommy Wheeldon Jr. only made one change to the side that beat Valour FC 1-0 last time out, bringing in Richard Luca on the right flank in place of the suspended Mo Farsi. Pacific boss Pa-Modou Kah made a few more changes, adding Lukas MacNaughton, Ollie Bassett, and Jordan Haynes back into their starting lineup.
After a relatively quiet start to the match, which saw the two sides each pick up a single shot on goal, Sergio Camargo gave Cavalry the lead in the 32nd minute with a brilliant shot from the top of the box. The Cavs midfielder received a pass from Ben Fisk at the edge of the penalty area, before taking a touch and firing a left-footed shot past a diving Callum Irving.
It seemed as though Cavalry were going to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but in the lone minute of first-half stoppage time, Terran Campbell would equalize for The Tridents. After making some space for himself down the left-wing, Josh Heard fired a dangerous cross into the box.
Alejandro Diaz got his head to it, forcing a save from Cavs goalkeeper Marco Carducci, but Campbell was in the right place at the right time for the rebound. With his back to goal, the Pacific forward leaned back for an overhead kick, beating Carducci for the equalizing tally.
Pacific had some momentum coming into the second half, and in his return to the starting lineup, Ollie Bassett gave his side the lead in the 66th minute. After stealing the ball in the Cavalry penalty area, Bassett fired a low shot into the bottom right corner, beating Carducci for his second goal of the season.
Not done there, Manny Aparicio made it 3-1 for The Tridents in the 89th minute. He cut in from the left flank, before firing a perfectly-placed shot toward the top-right corner. Despite his best effort, there was little Marco Carducci could do to keep it out, and Aparicio’s shot crashed off the far post and into the back of the net.
It sealed the three points for Pacific, moving them three points ahead of Cavalry at the top of the table. The Cavs remain in second place, three points above third-placed Forge FC, who have a game in hand.
