Francisco Acuña is in the Canadian Premier League record books.
The Atlético Ottawa attacker set a new mark for the fastest goal in CPL history on Sunday when he scored just 22 seconds into his side’s Island Games match against FC Edmonton.
It was the first CPL goal in three appearances from Acuña, a 32-year-old Mexican who signed with Ottawa in March.
Acuña bested Marco Bustos’ record of 30 seconds, which came with Valour FC in a match against Forge FC on June 15, 2019.
Acuña scored again in the 15th minute to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead over FCE.
Edmonton went on to score two late goals to earn a 2-2 draw.
