WATCH: Borges scores 1st CPL Finals goal with curling effort

Who else could it be?

Canadian Premier League golden boot leader Tristan Borges opened the scoring for Forge FC in Leg 1 on Saturday, netting the first Finals 2019 goal in CPL history in front of a home crowd at Tim Hortons Field.

The 23-year-old’s lifted effort sailed over a 10-man Cavalry FC side and into the side-netting late in first-half injury time – moments after missing a penalty. An incredible turn by Chris Nanco on the left wing set up the eventual shot, which curled past Marco Carducci – who had just saved a Borges penalty earlier – and into the back of the net, sending the crowd at Tim Hortons Field into a frenzy right before the half-time whistle.

With his goal, Borges moves to 13 for the season, giving him a two-goal lead over Terran Campbell of Pacific FC and Dominique Malonga of Cavalry FC in the Golden Boot race.
