Valour FC coach Rob Gale uses every opportunity to repeat his mantra.

He’s not building a “team,” he often says.

No, he’s building something bigger, a “football club.”

And, in a recent sit-down with the Winnipeg Free Press, Gale reiterated hundreds — if not thousands — of individuals want to be a part of his process.

“Absolutely non-stop,” Gale told the Free Press. “(Players from) every continent, pretty much every FIFA football nation I would say, if I went through my files here.

“It’s every day,” he continued. “I pick up my phone and I’m usually up and at it sort of by 6:30 in the morning, and Europe has been contacting me since 2:30 a.m. Then, you go to bed at night and New Zealand, Asia and all of those are waking up. It’s all day, every day, and it will be until the league kicks a ball.”

With the addition of Croatian midfielder Josip Golubar this week, Gale’s squad sits at a dozen players as the CPL’s founding clubs prepare for pre-season next month.

“Even people were reaching out before I was appointed to the club,” Gale added. “They were sending resumes, and not just to myself — any name they could find on the (Valour) website. The league gets them, any name they can find on our team’s website …”

Hundreds on inquiries per day, Gale insisted.

Valour’s current squad consists of goalkeepers Mathias Janssens and Tyson Farago, defenders Jordan Murrell, Skylar Thomas and Raphael Garcia, midfielders Raphael Ohin, Dylan Sacramento, Dylan Carreiro and Golubar and forwards Tyler Attardo, Glenn Muenkat and Stephen Hoyle.

On Saturday, the club confirmed its most recent addition: Vic the lion was revealed as the club’s mascot.
