Cavalry FC defender David Norman Jr. has been named CanPL.ca’s Player of the Week for the most recent week of CPL matches after a pair of excellent showings.
Norman, naturally a midfielder, slotted in at centre-back for Cavalry in this week’s matches and did superbly well, helping his side keep a clean sheet in both a 1-0 win over Valour FC on Sunday and a 0-0 draw with Pacific FC on Wednesday. He led his side in both matches in clearances and interceptions, looking very comfortable defensively alongside fellow centre-back Daan Klomp.
The Cavs are now undefeated in three straight matches, all of which Norman has played in their entirety. The 23-year-old British Columbia native signed with Cavalry this past offseason and has quickly become a key piece of Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s side, especially with the club facing so many challenges due to injury in recent weeks.
Norman was one of four Cavalry players named to the most recent Gatorade Team of the Week on Monday, alongside fellow centre-back Klomp as well as Mo Farsi and Sergio Camargo, and his performance midweek against Pacific was strong enough to earn him further laurels as the Player of the Week.
