CPL schedule to be released next week

Following Wednesday’s landmark media deal announcement, the Canadian Premier League has plans to reach another major milestone.

Commissioner David Clanachan reaffirmed to Sportsnet’s John Molinaro the CPL will release its 2019 schedule next week, adding things are “moving” ahead of the league’s April 27 start.

“The full schedule is going to drop next week,” Clanachan confirmed. “There’s some other news that’s going to drop, relatively shortly, (about) home openers.

“We have some other partner announcements that are coming up, so things are moving.”

Clanachan’s most recent comments arrive following the announcement of a 10-year, Official Media Partnership between Canadian Soccer Business and MEDIAPRO, a deal that awarded the Spanish production company media rights to the CPL, domestic Canadian national team fixtures, the Canadian Championship and League1 Ontario.

So far, only one game of the schedule has been revealed; the inaugural match at Tim Hortons Field on Saturday, April 27 between hosts Forge FC and York9 FC.

Clanachan mentioned a number of moving parts and variables needed to be addressed before the league schedule could be released.
