Pacific FC and FC Edmonton will close the final matchweek of their inaugural Canadian Premier League campaign with a tilt at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton on Wednesday night

The Eddies are 10 matches without a win heading into their last two games of 2019, with the latest defeat coming at the hands of Valour FC 11 days prior. Easton Ongaro’s bundled consultation was the only bright spot for Jeff Paulus’s side who were thoroughly outplayed by the hosts on the day.

Pacific FC enters their final week of 2019 play after a pair of 1-1 draws with their coastal foes in HFX Wanderers. Set piece magic from Victor Blasco and a back-post header by Lukas MacNaughton gave the Tridents a lead in both matches, although they would concede an equalizer twice as well.

Both sides will be in action on the final day of the Fall season this Saturday. Pacific FC will return home to host Valour FC (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. MT, available on OneSoccer) while FC Edmonton will head to Calgary for an Al Classico finale with Cavalry FC (4:00 p.m. ET, 2:00 p.m. MT/available on OneSoccer and CBC).

KEYS TO THE MATCH

  • Find your way to goal: The first goal, if there even is one, will be imperative to a result in Edmonton. PFC hasn’t scored multiple goals in any of the past eight matches, dating back to August 24. The Eddies have a similar run that goes back seven tilts. Remember the reverse of this fixture on Sept. 14? A handful of shots, with only a deflected attempt by Kadin Chung finding the net.
  • Marcel De Jong: After making his long-awaited CPL debut following an Achilles injury, PFC’s talented veteran defender is set to make a bigger impact Wednesday. Michael Silberbauer will have 2020 in mind when watching his backline, seeing how De Jong interacts with his winger and centr ebacks. Worth keeping an eye on…
  • What works on the wing: With Oumar Diouck slowly returning to full fitness, Jeff Paulus has been forced to get creative with his wing options to limited effect, with his side failing to get the same punch out wide the Belgian provides. Easton Ongaro and Ajeej Sakaria found themselves out there last time out. Young Edmontonians David Doe, Marcus Velado-Tsegaye and Philippe Lincourt-Joseph are potential options. Perhaps Wednesday is another chance to try something new.
