Marco Carducci: Cavalry FC using extended layoff as ‘fuel’ for 2021 season
Cavalry FC

It’s been a long road back for Marco Carducci… like every Cavalry FC player.

The Cavs goalkeeper is back in training with his club in Calgary after an over 200-day layoff from the 2020 CPL season coming to a close on Prince Edward Island.

Speaking to the Cavs’ media team, the 24-year-old said the extensive break added “fuel” to their disappointing exit in the Island Games second round, where the injury-riddled club coughed up two losses in the final stage.

“Going that long without playing a game and coming up short at the Island Games is fuel for us,” Carducci said from pre-season camp. “It’s just been awesome to get back doing what we love and getting ready for the season.”

Cavalry formally returned to training last week with several new faces arriving in Calgary including Carducci’s goalkeeping partner Tyson Farago, midfielder Joe Di Chiara, and defender Daan Kloomp.

“It’s been a long time to sit on that and to prepare, focus, and get that motivation to come back,” Carducci said.

Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s side has signed 19 players for the 2021 CPL season with recent additions Anthony Novak from Forge FC and returnee Oliver Minatel following injury complementing the Cavs’ attack.
