The Canadian Premier League’s first goalscorer is moving abroad.

Ryan Telfer, formerly of York9 FC and Toronto FC, has signed a short-term contract with Nea Salamis Famagusta FC, a first division team in Cyprus.

The 25-year-old joins the Famagusta-based side after seeing TFC decline to pick up his option for the 2020 season. Telfer, who spent the 2019 season with York9, emerged as one of CanPL’s best players from the Inaugural Game on, scoring the first goal in league history at Tim Hortons Field on April 27.

Telfer was also the first CPLer to score against an MLS side, first to score a home goal for York9, and the first CPLer to score an international goal when he was called up to Trinidad and Tobago.

According to kerkida.net, Telfer’s deal with the club will run until June.

Nea Salamis is currently sixth of 12 clubs through 17 matches – two spots below Cyrpiot giant and routine Champions League contestant APOEL. The club qualified for the Cypriot top tier championship round last year with a sixth-place finish and a 9-4-9 record.
